Falling in love on a #RoverRoadTrip

I am not a small person – this is no secret.

Since I was a kid I’ve been tall (I was taller than all but one of the boys in my class until I was 12) and a little bit awkward when it comes to spacial awareness (it’s okay, some people find the fact that I walk into things all the time endearing) and I’ve always been the tallest in my group of friends (though not in my family – I’m practically little next to all my brothers and uncles.)

To make up for this, I’ve always seen myself in small cars. The car I currently drive is little, and I’ve always pictured myself buying compact little zippy vehicles for the rest of my life, so that I can just zoot around town and park wherever I like and feel tiny tiny tiny.

Spending a weekend with a Range Rover has completely changed that.

Last weekend we made plans to head down to Graaf Reinet for the first national Instameet with SA Tourism and @SouthAfrica, and as much as I love a good ‘ol road trip, I wasn’t super psyched about being in the car all day – casual 10 hours in a cramped space anyone?

But we ended up doing the drive in a Range Rover (The Range Rover Evoque Autobiography, to be exact) and it was a flippen pleasure to drive – the miles genuinely flew by. It was comfortable, crazy smooth, roomy, and felt incredibly safe. Add to that the fact that it has a huge panoramic glass roof that makes the space inside feel even bigger, and it’s a total dream to travel in.

I was travelling with Ant and our friends Nick and Nicole, and I genuinely believe that there are few things more wonderful than talking and laughing and listening to great music (and eating great snacks) with wonderful friends. Thank you all for being such great travel companions and for putting up with my giddy attitude when I got to drive this beautiful beast around and laugh my head off.

I won’t pretend to know anything about horse power, or engine size, or kilowatt output – clearly cars have never been my area of expertise. But I will say this – if you’re looking to take an epic road trip with a bunch of friends (or if you want something strong to carry you about town, or if you just need something quick to take you to and from meetings) then this car is seriously for you. I started the weekend off being a little afraid of it (I mean, it’s a flippen BEAST) and by the time I had to give it back, I was completely in love. I even started referring to it as my new boyfriend.

I’m now completely convinced: the next car won’t just be a big one, it’ll be a Land Rover. Never before have I felt so well represented by a car. The breakup has been hard, but I loved the time that I got to spend with my love, The Range Rover Evoque Autobiography – thank you Land Rover for playing matchmaker and making all of my dreams come true.
