Lucy On My Feet
About a year ago, I took a picture of my lovely new Forever New lace-up heeled sandals at my friend Janine’s wedding. I loved the way they looked amidst the rose petals and promptly posted the pic to my Instagram page. After that, I decided to challenge myself to post every 3rd pic as one of my feet, tagging each picture as #LucyOnMyFeet, so that my little feet would always be running in a little line down my Instagram page.
It’s not a particularly noble or even exciting project, but I absolutely loved doing it for a whole year. As a creative, and especially as a blogger, it’s pretty easy for me to get lazy – I figure out how to do something, and once I’ve cracked the formula I’m basically all like ‘Cool, I can do this standing on my head so I’ll just sit on my couch all day eating Pringles and not challenge myself at all thanks very much.” So, by forcing myself to post every third image as a #FromWhereIStand picture, I couldn’t just go through my archives and post any old pic I’d taken to my Instagram. I had to force myself to take my camera out with me more, to keep my eyes open and search for exciting things to take pictures with. Not every photo was great – in fact, very many of them aren’t even good – but they tell a story of a year in my life and all the places my little feet have stood. From Joburg to Cape Town to Zambia, England, and Oslo, I love being able to look back on them and see how far I’ve been. What follows are the 87 pictures I took over the past year – you check them all out properly on my feed here.
After a year I’ve decided to give my feed a break and stop my point of view shots for a bit, though no doubt I’ll pop one in every now and then when I find a particularly great floor. Any ideas for what my next project should be? I’d love to hear them!
