YIELD Coffee Bar

You don’t have to know me that well to know that I worship at the altar of coffee. Filtered, french-pressed, cold-pressed, iced: I love it all. So, naturally, I’m always on the look out for my latest fix (I’m just waiting for them to invent coffee IV bars) and was super excited when one opened right around the corner from my house last year. Simple, stylish, and with delicious coffee, YIELD Coffee Bar in Linden has fast become one of my favourites for getting a caffeine fix.

Having been opened in Jan of 2016, YIELD has now been making people’s days with their delicious creations for about a year now – and I shudder to think how much of my paycheck has been spent there, too. It’s not a massive space, but it makes for the perfect spot for a drink and a chat with friends, or a place to catch up on emails while sipping a latte. One of my favourite things about YIELD is the amazing decor – it’s all reclaimed wood and hanging greenery and bare brick walls – which is basically EXACTLY my taste.

But while the decor is unmistakably lovely, it’s the coffee that takes centre stage at YIELD. The menu isn’t huge, but it’s packed with coffee options, no matter your mood. Go for a classic Americano, Cappuccino, or Latte (regular or flavoured), or if you’re feeling adventurous, try something a little more unusual, like a Cortado. And if you don’t like coffee (WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU) then they have some incredible coffee-free options too – like a Lindt Hot Chocolate (be still, my beating heart) or a Chai Latte. Too hot for boiling water? They serve Iced Coffees and Fruit Freezos, too.

My favourite drink at YIELD, though, has to be their signature ‘Swart Skaap.’ As a diabetic, it’s often hard to find sugar-free options at coffee shops and cafes, and this low carb drink is every banters dream. Made from a double espresso and pouring cream, it’s delicious and pairs perfectly with their low carb breakfast muffins. Just grab a cup and a muffin on your way to work, and you’ll be set for the day.

And if you’re not on the Tim-Noakes-Train (can’t say I blame you, carbs are delicious) then the freshly bakes goods that the YIELD team makes up every day will have your heart singing. Their gourmet sandwiches are made with the most delicious breads, and make for an epic lunch. If the place looks familiar, that might be because they played a starring role in Mercedes Benz South Africa’s awesome Mannequin Challenge last year.

Thank you to YIELD for always letting me sit and drink endless cups of coffee!

Lucy
